This LaFerrari could be a test vehicle for the company’s Le Mans Hypercar

As we’re expecting Ferrari to launch its new Icona model based on the 1967 330 P4 this November, the mysterious matte black test mule based on the LaFerrari has been spied again around the headquarters of Ferrari, and was caught on video by @varryx_.

Regardless what Ferrari is testing, if you watch carefully the video down below, you’ll notice the sound emitted from the engine sounds turbocharged. In fact, Ferrari’s new Icona model will use a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V12 derived from the 812 Competizione, and the LaFerrari test mule in the video doesn’t sound like that. Not to mention that the upcoming Icona model was captured with a production bodywork. If that’s the case, this could be a test vehicle for the 2023 Ferrari LeMans Hypercar.

Last February, Ferrari announced its return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023 with a new hypercar challenger.

Design-wise, there are some clear differences to the LaFerrari. A completely new front bumper, side air intakes, a different roof and rear window, and a real exhaust mounted in the rear of the car.

Until now it’s not clear what Ferrari is testing, but what we’re sure about is that the next-generation Ferrari hypercar will likely use a turbocharged engine paired to electric motors with a massive power output to deliver previously unthinkable performance levels.
