Ferrari and Shell extend partnership till 2030
It's official, Ferrari and Shell are renewing their long-standing partnership with a new multi-year agreement. A partnership that dates back to 1929, when Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari which acted as a racing division for Alfa Romeo at the time. Shell and Ferrari have been cooperating for over 90 years, overseeing 10 constructors’ F1 World Championships and 12 drivers’ titles, including five of Michael Schumacher's seven world championships.
The oil and gas company is their Innovation Partner, not only in pursuit of F1 success but also in helping Scuderia Ferrari with product development, which includes improving their car's V6 turbo-hybrid power unit and helping the team meet Formula One's goals of running fully sustainable fuels. Shell will also work with Scuderia Ferrari to achieve Formula One's target of reaching a net zero carbon footprint by 2030.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto stated: “The relationship between Scuderia Ferrari and Shell dates back to 1929, the year our team was founded.
“In that time, we have produced so many victories together. We are delighted therefore that our collaboration is now set to go on even longer.
“We share many common values, not least excellence, passion for racing and teamwork, which have made this partnership unique in the history of motorsport.
“As our Innovation Partner, we will continue to work with Shell on the transfer of racing technology to mobility as well as the ambitious challenges that lie ahead, in particular the aim of Formula 1 to reach a net-zero emissions level by 2030.”
Although success is a word that has been missing from Scuderia Ferrari’s dictionary for more than a decade in Formula 1, Shell global executive vice president for mobility, István Kapitány, described the coming years as "a very exciting time in our history together".
He adds: "Our partnership with Ferrari has bred truly remarkable innovations – innovations that Shell regularly relies upon when developing new fuels and lubricants for our customers.
"We’re now entering a very exciting time in our history together as we leverage this partnership to not only strive for success on the track, but also to develop cleaner fuels and lubricants for our customers."
The 2021 Formula One season begins on 26th March at Bahrain International Circuit.
