At the time of its launch, it was said that no more than 400-450 examples would be made. Due to its extreme popularity, 1,311 F40s left Maranello in total, of which 213 cars were delivered to the US market. Unfortunately, many have crashed over the years, and accidents like the following one will have those numbers decreased.
Sadly, for this poor owner, Ferrari Friday was quite sad. The driver of this rare and unique Ferrari F40 crashed the supercar during a final test drive on Friday 17th July in Queensland, Australia, before being sold off. Two people were inside the vehicle when the driver lost control, hitting several sign posts before landing on an incline on the side of the road. According to an Australian news outlet, the driver was issued a ticket for "not being in control of the vehicle.” Thankfully, neither driver nor passenger was hurt.
All hope isn’t lost, restoration experts say that with enough time and money, the car can be rebuilt. Even so, it's a mistake that could cost a lot of money, because as stated in some reports, this F40 wasn't even insured and belonged to the driver. So the owner will have to pay out of pocket to fix the damages, if he chooses to fix it at all.
Regarding the rumors, this is not the replica F40 based on a Ferrari 308 that lives in the area, a reliable source confirmed to DriveTribe that this is indeed a real one. However, the F40 that burned in Monaco, that was in far worse shape, is in the middle of a rebuild!
